"Where the Wild Things Are" inspired Max Beanie - Knitting Pattern

This is a knitting pattern I've created for my nephew, based on Max from "Where the Wild Things Are". I may yet change how the ears are attached, I have a bit of time until I make a Princess beanie for his sister to think about it.

Cast on 80 stitches in yellow/gold on size 4mm needles.
Rib 12 rows
Stst 2 rows in yellow.
Change to white yarn.
Stst 28 rows
K3, k2 together over the whole row
Purl
K2, k2 together over the whole row
Purl
K1, k2 together over the whole row
Purl
K2 together over the whole row
Purl
K2 together over the whole row
Cut yarn, leaving 30cm, thread all stitches onto the yarn, pull to tighten
Using a crochet hook, pick up 80 stitches from the 12th row of ribbing in yellow.

Rib 4 rows
Treating each 10 stitches separately across the crown portion.
For each point:
Slip one, knit the next stitch in the pattern, psso, continue rib for the rest of the row.
Continue each row the same until 3 stitches remain; slip one, k2 tog, psso, cut yarn, thread through the remaining stitch and pull tight.

Ears
Cast on 20 stitches in white.
Stst 22 rows, slipping the first and last stitches of each knit row.
With each knit row after the 22, slip the first stitch, k2 tog, knit to the last 3 stitches, k2 tog, slip one.
Purl alternate rows.
Continue until only 4 stitches remain.
Purl 1, purl 2 together, purl one.
Slip one, knit 2 together, psso, cut yarn, thread through the remaining stitch.
Stitch ears to the hat, sew in the tails, stitch up the back.
